Cuba - Day 4

By Juan Sanchez

We have had a wonderful time with the brothers in Santa Clara.  Yesterday, we spent the day encouraging the church and particular groups witin the church with items they desperately needed-things we take for granted such as basic hygience products and clothes.

FBC Santa Clara is in transition as Pastor Homero is retiring and a brand new pastor Juan Carlos is entering.  The transition is being worked out now, but I had the opportunity to sit down with both pastors and fellowship.  I am looking forward to building strong relationships with the new pastor.

We ate lunch together with the church leaders yesterday, then we toured Santa Clara.  It was much larger than even I realized.  Just over 200,000 people live in this city - that’s about as many as live within our five mile radius (209,000).  After our tour we rested for a little, then ate supper in homes.

They wanted us to experience a local concert last night by a group called Vocal Sampling.  They are a non-Christian version of Take Six.  Six vocalists providing all the music with their voices, mouths.  They sang the traditional Cuban songs as well as some newer ones.  They even sang “Every Move You Make” by the Police, but what brought the house down was “Hotel California.”  The vocalist who voiced the electric guitar was amazing - sounded just like an electric guitar.

We then got some ice cream together at the town square around 11:00 p.m. and fellowshipped for about an hour together.  We will say good bye today, then head to Havana to a Baptist home for the elderly.  I don’t know what  all is on our agenda, but our team is doing a great job living by my two rules of mission - no whining and be flexible!

Please continue praying for us.  I don’t know when I will be able to post next.  On Friday we will be at the seminary in Havana.  I am looking forward to our time there.
